Vannatter Named Gamer Of The Week

Hurricane HS Student-Athlete Honored

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to Freshman Harley Vannatter of Hurricane High School.

The Lady Redskins softball team is undefeated at 11-0. Hurricane is the number one rated team in AAA competition and look to three-peat for another West Virginia championship.

Last week, the Lady Redskins picked up four wins amidst a week when weather caused cancellations around the state.

One standout player that is helping to lead Hurricane along the way is freshman pitcher Harley Vannetter. The young hurler controlled the plate while pitching in all four games only allowing 6 runs in total. She also pitched a shut out against a competitive Cabell Midland team. On the year Vannetter is 5-0, 41 total strikeouts, pitched perfect game in her first state, and has only given up 3 runs on the year.

When asked about what motivates her Vannatter says, ”My parents are by biggest influence. My parents are my main source of support and motivation. My mother has been there for me during the tough times, and my father has sacrificed to be able to come to my games. My other source of motivation comes from my coaches and teammates. Everyone is very supportive and has shown trust in me. Coach Caldwell is an awesome coach that gets the most out of his players while still having fun.”

When asked about what her goal is for her freshman season she replies, “Our main goal to win our third straight AAA title. As a first year player I want to play my best because I know the veterans depend on me to play well for our team to succeed. I believe if we play for each other, we can achieve our goals together.”

The Lady Redskins won their share of dominating victories but they have come through in the clutch to win the close games. In the earlier stages of a long season Hurricane is showning they are a team to be feared. However, they have also shown they are still vulnerable.

The combo-punch of the senior Katie Adams and Vannetter is proving to be a frustrating outing for opposing teams. When Head Coach Josh Caldwell was asked about his star pitcher he says, “She is a great kid who works extremely hard.  We are so happy to for her and she’s got a bright future ahead of her at Hurricane and wherever she ends up in college.”

The Lady Redskins, and their fans, are hoping they can continue their winning streak to an unheralded undefeated season and third straight AAA state crown.

In the classroom, Harley has a 3.8 GPA and plays travel softball for an Ohio-based travel team, The Lady Laser’s Green. She plans to continue playing softball on the collegiate level and wants to major in a health care related field.
