Marshall Health Opens In Scott Depot

51 Thousand Square Feet Of Health Care

While the nation’s politicians debate the future of health care in the United States, Marshall University is committed to taking great care of Putnam County’s medical patients today.

Marshall Health opened its doors, Monday, April 3rd, 2017, to a new 51,000-square-foot, three-story, state-of-the-art clinical facility at 300 Corporate Center Drive in Scott Depot.

The new location consolidates Marshall Health’s existing internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric offices in Putnam County under one roof.

Orthopaedics, sports medicine, on-site imaging (x-ray) and laboratory services are among the expanded offerings now available in Scott Depot. Additional service lines are expected later in 2017.

Marshall Health purchased the former Patriot Coal corporate headquarters building in April of 2016. In addition to expanded patient care, the new facility increases the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine’s <>  capacity for medical students and residents to train in an outpatient setting.

“We are reinvesting in this community where we’ve been serving patients for more than two decades,” says Beth L. Hammers, executive director of Marshall Health. “The opening of this new facility means residents of Putnam County can receive specialty care close to home.”

When Hammers says “reinvesting,” that is an understatement.

“Marshall Health purchased the building for $5.3 million in April 2016,” states Sheanna M. Spence, a spokesperson for Marshall Health. “We do not yet have a total cost of the renovation at this point.”

It is safe to estimate that the renovations and medical equipment, computer network and furniture will add another $1 million to the cost.

Patient access is priceless. No one wants to drive to Charleston or Huntington for great medical care – especially since Putnam County lacks public transportation options.

“We are able to expand our services to Putnam County and have them all in one center,” says Chief Operating Officer Josh Dorsey. “This makes it more convenient for our patients.”

Marshall Health-Teays Valley is conveniently located adjacent to Interstate 64, between the Teays Valley and Crooked Creek exits. It offers ample free parking. A grand opening and community health fair are planned for early June.

With the opening of the facility, Marshall Health now operates three multi-specialty clinics in southwestern West Virginia, as well as multiple other locations across the Tri-State.

To schedule an appointment with one of the Marshall Health physicians, please telephone 304-691-6800.

Patients at other facilities will not experience any changes in care as a result of the new location.

In addition to expanded health care, Marshall is continuing to staff the medical center. If you would like to apply for a job, please click on
