Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. is pleased to present this week’s female Gamer of the Week to Carllee Bishop of Hurricane High School.
Daughter of Pete and Joyell Bishop, Carllee has enjoyed volleyball for approximately 8 years. “It’s something that I love, it’s fast paced which means you always need to be alert and focused.” Bishop’ primary position for the Lady Redskins is libero. Being a libero, Bishop is a defensive specialist. She is responsible for passing in serve receiving situations, ball control, and getting “digs” in order to keep the play alive. “It seems like a lot to do but it’s like second nature to me,” says Bishop.
This past weekend, Hurricane played Parkersburg and Spring Valley. The scores against Parkersburg were, 25-15, 25-18, 25-23, with the Lady Redskins coming out on top with the win. The game against Spring Valley was a hard fought loss for Hurricane, coming in with scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-14. However, they did not let this put them down. The Lady Redskins are ranked number 2 in the state and will enter the state tournament for the first time on Friday. “I would love for us to win,” states Bishop. “It’s something that I have always wanted, and it would be a great accomplishment for us.”
“Carllee is such a natural leader,” says, her coach, Allie Pennington. “She goes above and beyond for her team.”
When Bishop was asked who inspires her most she quickly responded with, “my coaches and my parents, they push me to be my best and support me in everything that I have ever done.” Once Carllee graduates she plans on attending WVU Tech and majoring in nursing, all the while continuing to play the sport she loves.
